Dr Lisa Sweet
Dr. Lisa Sweet, C.Psych.
Dr. Sweet graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1998 with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and is registered for practice in both Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Sweet worked at the Royal Ottawa Hospital from 1998 to 2001 and gained experience with the clinical and neuropsychological aspects of geriatric and general psychiatry. Dr. Sweet was also involved in the development of the anxiety disorder program and led clinical diagnostic assessments as well as individual and group-based psychotherapeutic interventions. Dr. Sweet later joined the psychology staff at the Ottawa Hospital. There she gained experience in conducting neuropsychological evaluations in an acute medical setting and also provided psychotherapeutic interventions to patients suffering from a variety of medical illnesses.
Since 2002, Dr. Sweet has worked for the Sister of Charity Health Service (SCO) as a neuropsychologist within the Care of the Elderly and Rehabilitation program. There, she has gained extensive experience in the assessment and diagnosis of cognitive disorders and how best to manage their day to day implications. Dr. Sweet is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology. She was actively involved in the CPA accredited internship offered at SCO and continues to train students as they work towards their graduate degree or provincial registration.
Dr. Sweet holds an appointment as a Clinical Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa and continues to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Clinical Psychology Services
Using cognitive-behavior methods, Dr. Sweet provides therapeutic services to adult and geriatric populations. Her practice has focused mainly on the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders and phobias, stress management and relaxation, coping with health/medical issues (e.g., pain or chronic illness), caregiver stress (e.g., caring for a loved one with dementia or other illnesses), grief/bereavement.
Clinical Neuropsychology Services
Dr. Sweet is trained in the diagnostic assessment of cognitive disorders associated with aging or other neurological/medical conditions impacting upon thinking and behavior. Assistance in developing cognitive and functionally relevant skills or compensatory strategies, as well as facilitating the management of the affective and behavioral implications of cognitive impairment or dementia is also available
